Eriksen and Hojlund named in Denmark´s Euro 2024 squad as O´Riley misses out

Christian Eriksen and Rasmus Hojlund have been named in Denmark s squad for Euro 2024, although there is no place for Matt O Riley in the 26-player party.

Eriksen s Euro 2020 campaign was notoriously curtailed after he suffered a cardiac arrest during his nation s opening match against Finland in Copenhagen.

The midfielder watched on from hospital as the Red and Whites went on to reach the semi-finals, but he will feature again this time around alongside Manchester United team-mate Hojlund.

However, O Riley has been left out, despite an impressive season with Scottish Premiership champions Celtic in which he scored 18 goals.

It s hard to disappoint someone, these are boyhood dreams that come up short, head coach Kasper Hjulmund told reporters, [but] I m …

Elated Osorio sets sights on Russia 2018

Hirving Lozano s 53rd-minute strike against Panama secured Mexico s place at the 2018 World Cup on Friday but coach Juan Carlos Osorio knows the hard work starts now.

Mexico s 1-0 win maintained their unbeaten record in qualifying and ensured they will return to Russia after finishing fourth at this summer s Confederations Cup.

It is the seventh successive World Cup that Mexico have qualified for but on each of those occasions they have failed to get past the round of 16.

And while Osorio is keen to celebrate their latest achievement, he knows he must begin plotting how they can go deeper in the competition next year.

The most important thing is to enjoy this moment. We set a goal for Mexico to qualify for the World Cup without any fuss, we have achi…

Turkiye kept knockout stage promise after Czechia win, says Yilmaz

Baris Alper Yilmaz said Turkiye kept their promise as a team of reaching the knockout stages of Euro 2024 following their 2-1 win over 10-man Czechia.

Vincenzo Montella s side left it late to secure second place in Group F, as Cenk Tosun s late strike set up a date with Austria in Leipzig next Tuesday.

It marked the first time that Turkiye had progressed from the group stage of the European Championships since 2008, with Yilmaz playing a starring role in their triumph.

I want to be as useful to the team as possible, substitute Yilmaz said after picking up the man of the match award.

It was a really difficult match. We made it to the last 16, we are very happy.

When we talked with our friends before the camp, our only goal was to get out of …

Bayer Leverkusen continued their march towards the Bundesliga title as they edged to victory at Freiburg to restore their 10-point lead at the top.

Xabi Alonso’s side remain unbeaten in the league this season and ran out 3-2 winners on Sunday afternoon.

Leverkusen remain on course to end Bayern Munich’s run of 11 successive titles after efforts from Adam Hlozek and Patrik Schick saw them build a two-goal lead after Ritsu Doan had pulled the hosts level following Florian Wirtz’s early opener.

Leverkusen have no time to soak in ´Neverlusen´ season – Alonso

Xabi Alonso says it will take time for Bayer Leverkusen s undefeated run to their maiden Bundesliga to sink in.

Long derided as Neverkusen for their failure to win a major title for decades, Leverkusen became the first-ever team in the Bundesliga to complete a full season without a loss following a 2-1 victory over Augsburg in the season finale on Saturday.

In fact, across the top five European leagues, only Arsenal (2003-04) and Juventus (2011-12) have achieved an invincible season since the start of the millenium.

The club hailed the achievement by giving themselves a new nickname on their social media channel Bayer 04 Neverlusen .

It is an exceptional season, not only in Germany but in Europe, Alonso said in a press conference.

We deserve no…

Henry: Portugal can make Euro 2016 final ugly

Thierry Henry has warned France that Portugal could make the Euro 2016 final ugly at Stade de France.

The former Arsenal and Barcelona attacker, who won World Cup 1998 and Euro 2000 in a 123-cap Les Bleus career, also acknowledged that Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo is almost impossible to subdue for a full match.

However, Henry thinks the feel-good factor and team spirit in France s camp will be enough to get his nation over the line.

Portugal can make the game ugly they know how to play like that, Henry, France s record goalscorer, told BBC Sport.

Wales did a good job against Ronaldo. He was nowhere to be seen and then 1-0. It looked like he was getting annoyed, but how do you stop that?

You know in the game he will have chances. Sometime…

Massive police recruitment drive for 2010 World Cup

South Africa s police authorities have launched a massive recruitment drive to increase the number of officers by 55,000 to 190,000 in time for the 2010 World Cup.

The South African security reinforcement programme revealed at a press conference here Saturday that 44,000 policemen and women will have already been recruited by the end of 2008.

There are also plans to increase the number of reserve officers from 45,000 to 100,000.

Our claim that the World Cup will be safe is justified, said Danny Jordaan, president of the 2010 World Cup organising committee, citing the fact that South Africa already welcomes nine million tourists to the country every year.

If we are able to keep these tourists safe, why shouldn t we be able to do it for 450,000 fans du…
