Europa League wrap: Portuguese teams dominate

Porto, Benfica and Sporting Braga all progressed to the Europa League quarter-finals in a good evening for Portuguese sides on Thursday.

The night was not so kind for British teams, with tournament favourites Manchester City, Liverpool and Glasgow Rangers all exiting continental competition far earlier than they would have liked.

Porto, who are unbeaten in 32 league games and are 13 points clear of Benfica at the top of the Liga Sagres table, produced another excellent performance to defeat CSKA Moscow 2-1 at the Estadio Do Dragao.

After they won the first leg in Moscow 1-0, Brazilian striker Hulk, who has 29 goals in all competitions, gave Porto the perfect start with a goal inside the first minute.

Birmingham sign Brek Shea on loan; Pilkington: No regrets for Norwich exit

Football League Championship side Birmingham City have completed the signing of Brek Shea on a three-month emergency loan.

The USA international, 24, has moved to St. Andrew s from Stoke City, with the player s parent club having no recall option.

Shea, who has been assigned the No. 13 shirt, is already in contention to feature against Leeds United at the weekend.

I ve been chasing Brek for a while and actually wanted to sign him permanently at the start of the season, Clark told the Club s official website.

He impressed me when he played for Barnsley here at St. Andrew s on New Year s Day and, given our recent injuries, it made sense to make this loan move, importantly with no recall clause being something that I have stressed all along.

England a possibility for Eto´o

Inter Milan striker Samuel Eto’o admits he is questioning his future with the Serie A club.

Eto o, who finished last season as the league s third leading goalscorer with 21 goals in 35 games, has refused to rule out trying his luck in the English Premier League.

The Cameroon international had committed himself to the Italian club towards the end of the season, but it looks now like he has had a change of heart about leaving the San Siro.

It is true that I have a few offers, the former Barcelona player said.

I have a month off now to evaluate all of them and decide what to do.

I’m 30, I’m close to my final big contract and we’ll have to see whether I should stay or go.

My eventual departure is not to try to earn 100,000 or 20…
